Scotland

Rugged, colorful, and feisty, Scotland stands apart. From its stony architecture to its striking landscape to its charming people — and their peculiar fondness for haggis — this little land packs a big punch. A proud identity unites the sparsely populated country, which boasts misty glens, brooding castles, windswept moors, peaty whisky, and Celtic ambience. Its leading cities, Edinburgh and Glasgow, teem with culture. It's easy to fall in love with the irrepressible spirit and beautiful scenery of this faraway corner of Britain.

Edinburgh Old Town & Castle

Perched on an extinct volcano, Edinburgh Castle dominates the city skyline and is Scotland's most iconic fortress. Wander down the cobbled Royal Mile to discover historic closes, visit the Palace of Holyroodhouse, and hike up Arthur’s Seat for an incredible, panoramic view of the city. Book tickets for Edinburgh Castle in advance, as it is easily one of the busiest attractions in the country.

The Road Through Glencoe

Located in the Scottish Highlands, this breathtaking, U-shaped glen was carved by glaciers and volcanic explosions. It is widely considered one of the most beautiful drives in the world. Take the A82 road through the pass to admire the towering, jagged peaks known as the Three Sisters. You can hike the trails of the Glencoe National Nature Reserve and learn about the region's tragic history at the Glencoe Visitor Centre. Stop at The Kingshouse Hotel along the route to grab a bite to eat with stunning views of the surrounding deer and mountains.

The Isle of Skye

Connected to the northwest coast by a bridge, Skye offers untamed landscapes, dramatic sea cliffs, and mystical folklore. Hike up the dramatic rock formations at the Old Man of Storr, explore the surreal landscape of the Quiraing, and marvel at the breathtaking white sand of Coral Beach near Dunvegan. Car rentals and accommodations on the island book up months in advance for the summer season. If you are starting your drive from the nearby Highland capital, check out what to see in Inverness on your way!
